Cuyo Balitaw

My Grade 4 teacher, Mrs. Abad, loves teaching songs and even though she's not Cuyunin she taught us this Cuyunin song. This song describes Cuyo life and the struggling island farmers.

Cuyo Balitaw
Jose and Fe Tria Fernandez

Sa kapupuroan maambeng
Kung masanag ngani ang bolan
Mga bata ig ma nga malam
Naga parasiar sa pantalan
Ma nga solteros ig daraga
Naga gitara magkaranta kada isara
Mi sara maambeng andang leba

Sa kapupuroan maambeng
Kung masanag ngani ang bolan
Mga bata ig ma nga malam
Naga parasiar sa pantalan
Ma nga solteros ig daraga
Naga gitara magkaranta kada isara
Mi isara maambeng andang leba

Pagkasanag ngani dayong parakon
Sa oma, magkaingin, magsaripsip
Magpaligid kong mainit,
Maluto ron ngani ang paray sa bukid
Dayon sandang parantek
Maglelebeklebek

Pagkasanag ngani dayong parakon
Sa oma, magkaingin, magsaripsip
Magpaligid kong mainit,
Maluto ron ngani ang paray sa bukid
Dayon sandang parantek
Maglelebeklebek

Sa kapupuroan maambeng
Kung masanag ngani ang bolan
Mga bata ig ma nga malam
Naga parasiar sa pantalan
Ma nga solteros ig daraga
Naga gitara magkaranta kada isara
Mi isara maambeng andang leba

Amos kamo mga tangay
Masaraot saot kita nay
Lipatan ta ateng kapilay, magpanari anay
Dading loto ron ang paray, kita magkalipay.
Indi tay panombaien, ateng kabedlay.

Translation:

It’s fun to be in the islands
When the moon is bright
Young and old alike go strolling to the wharf
Young men and women play the guitar and sing.
Everyone is happy.

When morning comes they go to the fields
To cut trees, clean the fields and burn them (aka slash and burn)
When the day is hot (paligid=removing weeds in upland rice fields)
When the grains ripen on the mountain
They harvest them and make pinipig (crispy rice).

Come my friend, let’s dance awhile
Let’s forget our weariness, let’s rest awhile
Now that the rice is ripe let us rejoice!
Let us not mind our efforts.

HMO Stuff

We'll be covered by a new HMO company (Medserv) next month and we had an orientation seminar for the new one today. As expected, madadaya talaga ang mga HMO as the exemption list is veeery long. One neat feature that was incorporated was the inclusion of formerly diagnosed diseases in the covered diseases list. Also, both my doctors are included in the list of accredited MDs.
The following are not covered:
  • Suicide, self-inflicted injuries
  • Vehicular accidents
  • Assault, provoked or not
  • Bites
  • Vaccines, etc.
Mahal magkasakit sa Pilipinas.

Btw, I was with Fortune in the last two years.

Up(down)dates

  1. I was advised by my EENT doctor to undergo tonsillectomy because according to him my tonsils are already useless and therefore must be removed. I told him I'll consider it. Good: It's covered by my medical insurance. Bad: I'll have to pay his and the anesthesiologists professional fees. Worst: I was earlier (last year ata) about to undergo the procedure but I backed out. It was supposed to be completely covered by my insurance, but it would take place in a hospital with a shady rep. (A brod died there!)
  2. I volunteered for a translation work with http://www.scn.org/cmp/index.htm which is associated with http://www.onlinevolunteering.org/. I began with a simple poem which I think is a sort of pre-test for me. It was to be translated from English to Cuyunin using a neat translation program CatsCradle. It was fun because I get to use my home dialect for a cause.
  3. It's very hot and humid in Cavite these past few days. Whew.

Three years and four months

Yup! I've been here that long. Many things have changed in my work (compared to where I started off).
  • Artificial insemination center
  • Broiler dispersal project
  • The pig farm
  • Working with a vet consultant
  • Working with another vet
In those years, I'm glad that I was able to create jobs. Although there are a lot of problems that I encounter, I am still optimistic about what the future of these projects will bring.

I may not be able to post an update in a while.

Ingats.

Sem ender

Sa buhay estudyante, pinakamiss ko ang... SEM ENDER! :) Pinaka memorable ang mga semender na napuntahan ko sa Puerto Galera. Syempre di kami sa White Beach, dun kami sa Small La Laguna. Ayos dun. Malayo sa mala-mall na White Beach at masarap mag-snorkeling dun. Once nga, buong araw namin itong ginawa, ansarap kasi andaming bato. Pwedeng magpahinga kung pagod na. TBC

Almanacs

Have you read the Almanac of Honorio Lopez? I recently found its Panay counterpart: The Almanaque Panayanhon. This one is written by Casimiro F. Perfecto of Mandurriao, Iloilo City and is being distributed throughout Visayas and Mindanao and even Romblon. While the H. Lopez Almanac is on its 109th year, this almanac started its publication in 1877!
This year's edition has an editorial about charter change, the elections, and the death penalty. It also has a chronology of events, important and otherwise:
  • Kutub sang pagtuga sang kalibutan: 7212
  • Kutub sang pagkasapu ni Magallanes sang Pilipinas: 486
  • Kutub sang paghusay sang kalendaryo ni Papa Gregorio: 435
  • Paglupok sang Mt. Pinatubo: 16

There's also a list of religious feasts and official holidays and some literary and history pieces. Interestingly there's also a health advisory regarding the Guimaras Oil Spill.

Pinoy Blogs

I'm on vacation leave until April 9 to relax a bit. I believe I would not have internet access.

I just received my Notice of Admission from UPLB Graduate School. Cool!

Not cool: When I talked to my manager about it, I got a pokerface.

LSS: Tatsulok

[chorus]
Habang may tatsulok at sila ang nasa tuktok
Di matatapos itong gulo

At ang dating munting bukid, ngayo’y sementeryo
Totoy kumilos ka, baliktarin ang tatsulok
Tulad ng dukha, nailagay mo sa tuktok

[repeat refrain and chorus]

[repeat refrain and chorus]

[repeat chorus]

Di matatapos itong gulo

Summer Outing

For our summer outing, we went to a resort in Calaca, Batangas this Saturday afternoon. It was not as organized as before but everyone seemed to enjoy.

+++++
I'll not be around this holy week! I'm taking a breather.
