APVS

The 2nd Asian Pig Veterinary Society Congress was held here in Manila and I was fortunate to attend it. It was held in Shangri-La Edsa from September 19-21. Many countries were represented including some European and American countries. Many papers were presented, majority of which are about PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome), PCV2 infection (Postweaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome and Porcine Dermatitis and Nephropathy Syndrome), Classical swine fever and lots of researches on Lawsonia infection, Pseudorabies and Mycoplasma.
Despite the advances on this side of veterinary medicine, in the end everything really falls down on good management practices in the farm. Here in the Philippines, even a simple concept as all-in all-out is so hard to understand among farm supervisors, much more to small farmers.
A very nice symposium on breeding and herd health was presented by PIC, a breeding company. Merial sponsored a symposium on swine fever in Southeast Asia. Schering Plough's symposium focused on Mycoplasma.
It's of note though that some plenary lectures sounded like sales pitches.

Ang sintomas ng TGE ay pagtatae, pagsusuka at lagnat. Maaaring maapektohan ang biik at mga dumalaga't inahin, gayundin ang barako. In short, lahat. Yung nagkakalat ng sakit yung dumalaga at inahin.
