...The following are the diseases in order of prevalence(also of fatality) in Philippine setting (based on experience).
1. Canine Parvo Virus (CPV) - characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence.
2. Canine Distemper Virus (CD) - there are four forms of this disease. Respiratory, Digestive, Skin, Nervous type. Symptoms are similar to CPV.
3. Canine Corona Virus (CCV) – signs are similiar but not as fatal as CPV.
4. Canine Infectious Hepatitis (ICH) – is a viral infection that affects the Liver and gastro intestinal system. Can be characterized by yellowing of mucus membranes(jaundice).
5. Parainfluenza (Kennel Cough, infectious Tracheo Bronchitis) – is a complex respiratory disease.
6. Canine Leptospirosis (CL) – a bacterial infection that can also infect humans. Organs affected are Liver, Kidney and brain. Can also be seen with jaundice(yellowing) of mucus membranes.
7. Rabies – A very fatal viral disease transmitted by a bite of infected animal (dogs,cats and even rodents). Not curable when symptoms appear. Consult your vet or a medical Doctor right away when you or anybody is bitten by a dog or cat suspected to have rabies.
