Atovi

Atovi is a production performance enhancer. Some of my clients are using this as toppings for the feeds of their pigs and broilers. They swear by its ability to reduce the odor of the animal's feces and the further improvement in appetite and weight gain.

Fermin M. Diaz published a story in the Philippine Star's Agriculture/Environment Section last December 16, 2007. It mentions anecdotal evidences on the effect of the product on different farms in Luzon.

Last week, I mentioned this product to an animal nutritionist. She claims that she has conducted trials using Atovi while she was in graduate school. Her verdict: 1. The product is just vitamins and minerals and are of the chelated type. Not even related to nanotechnology! 2. Atovi = activated vitamins. 3. Economic cost cannot be justified as the product is not cheap and the inclusion rate is high.

It is also interesting to note that not even a single published work was quoted on the newspaper article. The fecal odor on the other hand is more of the factor of the digestibility of the feedstuffs and the capability of the animal to digest the feed materials being given.

I believe that in the end, the best and the cheapest production performance enhancer is just the combination of the following: good environment, good management and good nutrition.

There is no cure all drug.

There is no wonder drug.
